THE FUNCTION OF MEMORY | FILM SCREENINGS AT MARAA

The act of remembering is deeply connected to how much we forget. The function of memory, is linked to different temporalities which links historical erasures, untold stories, unheard perspectives of the same story and uncanny experiences. In this curation, we see how the memory of a landscape is inscribed on the bodies of people, how a story feels from a colonised "subject":a master's story from the slave's point of view, a chronological account of people and event that shape collective imagination, a departure that lends to necessary forgetting. One can wonder, is memory to hard to hold on to, or is forgetting impossible. The film festival is an invitation to ponder about the function of memory.

We will have a discussion after all screenings, either with the film maker or someone closely associated with the film.
